The River of Life
This Sunday, we are going to be thinking about God’s life-giving river. The Bible is full of invitations through rivers. Rivers are powerful, and when they are flowing, they produce currents. Currents are usually strongest when they are near the river’s source.
Water and God
I love lakes, waterfalls and rivers. I love going to Rouken Glen Park with Torianne and our boys – we do a lap of the pond before visiting the waterfall. There is something calming and invigorating about the water to me.
I love the sea – Troon to the West, St. Andrews to the East. I look out over the waves, and chat to Jesus and Torianne about our dreams and vision. We have prayed for marriage, children and ministry, on the sand, beside the water.
I also love swimming, and as a boy, I was a keen swimmer. I did my lessons at Castlemilk swimming pool, but I was so nervous. I would feel inferior to my peers and feared drowning. By God’s grace, I no longer fear drowning.
God’s river
Ezekiel 47:1-14 invites us to experience God’s life-giving power, to have eyes to see the harvest field and then to be filled that we may go out in that same power.
We praise God for how he is moving in our land. We praise God for the outpouring of the Spirit in this nation. It’s time for us to fall on our knees afresh, to be filled, to go out.
When the apostles are commissioned to be disciple-makers in Matthew 28, there are no Christians to disciple. Their starting point for discipleship was evangelism.
Prayer
On Sunday, we will unpack together how Ezekiel 47 can speak to us about the above, I’m not going to do much of that here.
We are praying that Sunday is a powerful gathering where God’s spirit is poured out afresh, however He desires.
You may be feeling weary. Come for refreshment.
You may be feeling like you’ve carried dreams or seeds of vision that haven’t been fulfilled. Come for an infilling.
You may feel that you want to surrender afresh to the living God. Come and behold Jesus in His beauty afresh as we worship together.
You may have a desire to see your life used in deeper ways for the Kingdom of God, come to be activated.
