As I write on Thursday morning, it is wonderfully sunny in Glasgow. Sunshine gladdens the heart, and for me, so do cherry blossom trees. I pass by several on my way to the office, and this week they seem to be at the peak of their splendiferousness. It feels like there is newness in the air, and at QPBC, there are multiple new things about to happen.
Sunday Mornings
We have finished our Sunday morning series, Following the Way of Jesus. It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway, that it’s just the series which has finished! My prayer is that in all we do and say (individually and corporately), we will, of course, continue to seek to faithfully and obediently follow the way of Jesus.
Before …
Before we start our new mini-series (more on that below) this Sunday, we have a guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Stuart Blythe, who recently moved back to Scotland after some time in Canada to become Pastor at Auldhouse Community Church.
I’m really looking forward to Stuart bringing God’s word to us on Sunday.
Mini-Series
In May, we will start a new mini-series on Sunday Mornings looking at some Live Issues.
New Outreach
Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz famously says to her dog Toto, “I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”. This is most certainly true when it comes to knowledge of the Christian story or the bible. In our post-Christian context, there is most certainly a spiritual hunger and greater openness to talking about religion, but, for example, as church, we can no longer assume people know anything about why Jesus came to earth or what the cross is all about.
With this in mind, we are going to try something new, which we pray will connect with and make sense to people in our current context. It is called 3-2-1 Speak Life.
For those of us who know and follow Jesus, this is a great opportunity to invite friends, colleagues, neighbours, and family to come and explore who Jesus is.
3-2-1 Speak Life is a four-week course, which will run on Wednesdays, starting 14th May through to the 4th of June, 7:30pm in The Point.
