I believe one of the biggest misconceptions around the Holy Spirit is…
that He operates on His own!
Holy Spirit reflections
The Bible shows us the inseparable operations of God, i.e. Father, Son and Holy Spirit at work every time God does something or moves. (Malachi 3:6 – NIV).
Sometimes we quench or reject the Spirit, when we set our minds on the flesh (Romans 8). Sometimes we have a disproportionate fixation on the power of the Spirit – rendering people recipients rather than brothers and sisters.
Jesus models a spirit-empowered human life where He displays the fruit of the Spirit (God’s character in us), operates in the gifts of the Spirit (God’s power through us), and, importantly – lives a daily life empowered by the Spirit (our human needs are met and we are more aware of meeting others’ needs).
At QP, we carry a Baptist tradition which includes Charismatic theology. We desire to be a people led by the Holy Spirit!
Last week
Last week, Brodie introduced our current preaching series, where he proposed that the Holy Spirit is a person – like the Godhead as a whole (Father, Son, and Spirit – three persons, one God). In many ways, for the first recipients of John’s Gospel, trying to understand how a spirit is relational would be confusing!
When my mum and I were reconciled
As I walked off the number 21 bus in Cathkin, coming back from uni on a Friday evening, God changed my life. I had an encounter with God’s Spirit where He brought revelation and healing. I will share more on Sunday…
This week
On Sunday, we will be reading John 14:15-27, mainly focusing on – How did Jesus model for us a spirit-empowered life?
We will focus on three key areas within the above verses. Praying that God meets us all powerfully, and I look forward to seeing you there 😊
