Equip in Romania July 6-13th
Created by Nick Fletcher in 05/06/2009 09:53:46

Equip & the Romanian charity FAST will partner for the third year to love & serve 'at risk' families within Rroma communities near Brasov through the Better Homes Project.

Many children in Romanian orphanages are not orphans, but rejected from families that neither have the space or finance to keep them at home. The Better Homes project helps families renovate and refurbish their homes; and at the same time provides employment and construction skills to enhance job prospects.

The Better Homes Project now employs two men from the Rroma community and has a small workshop that builds frames for prefab houses. Daniel Hristea the founder of the FAST charity has a long term vision to build a factory that can employ people from the Roma community in constructing homes for families in their own villages.

In 2007 a team from equip (QP's discipleship and training programme) spent a day with the Better Homes Project filling the foundations of a home that is now complete.  In 2008 an equip team returned to the village of Tarlungeni to help the same family - this time, building a trench that enabled a water supply to be connected for them to have running water and a shower. They also helped rough cast and paint the outside of their neighbour’s house.

Between July 6th and 13th this year, a team of 14 will be spending four days with Daniel and the Better Homes project serving and supporting them in whatever way they need most. Our fundraising efforts have so far raised approximately £2700, but we are hoping to be able to take at least a minimum of £4,000 which is the amount that FAST need to raise for each home to be built.

We would value your prayer and if you would like to contribute to the Romania fund 2009, please contact the equip co-ordinator Nick Fletcher by using the Contact Us form and selecting "equip."
